sohanStill on indefinite hiatus (during which time this very slow-moving and slowly released series has gotten up to volume 10...), sorry, too much RL business, but finally got around to posting some basic character information (contains spoilers). I also went through the summaries and fixed a major romanization mistake with 적영's name.

• • • • • 무기연서원 (Mugiyŏn sŏwŏn) [Mugiyeon seowon] {舞沂蓮書院} — A school for orphans run by the noblewoman Sŏng Howŏl in the country of Mun.
성호월 (Sŏng Howŏl) [Seong Howol]
• The last surviving member of a famous martial clan—a 무가 (muga) {武家}—called the 월령 성가 {家} (Wŏl'lyŏng Sŏng) [Wollyeong Seong]. An exile from the empire of 수 (Su) {水}.
김묘운 (Kim Myo'un) [Gim Myoun/Kim Myoun] {金妙雲}
• One of the few students at the school who chose not to take up the sword.

* Note: Ryu is Ryu Sang's surname, but everyone just calls him by his full name as often happens to people who have 2-character names. Sŏng Howŏl (and probably only Sŏng Howŏl) seems to have called him 상아 (Sang'a) [Sanga], which is a little bit more affectionate and diminutive than 'Ryu Sang.'
강적영 (Kang Chŏk'yŏng) [Gang Jeokyoung/Kang Jeokyoung]

• The son of a high-ranked soldier (possibly the captain or commander?) of a fort or commanderie.
